While the killing of Bin Laden was considered a great success, one of out stealth helicopters was left behind. While it was blown up, some parts remained. There is currently some reason to think that our fine friends in Pakistan showed the parts to the Chinese.
While this has not been confirmed, it is certainly consistent with Pakistan’s track record. Assuming it is true, there seem to be various points that can be drawn from it.
First, if this is true, then we have one more reason to believe the obvious: we are (at best) a friend of convenience for Pakistan. They are happy to accept our money and support, while also dealing with our enemies and acting in ways clearing inconsistent with our interests.
Second, if this is true, then we have one more sign that our influence in Pakistan (and perhaps the world) is not as great as we might hope.
Third, if this is true, then it is another (admittedly small) sign of China’s growing influence in the world. Pakistan has recently claimed that China is its “best friend”, which does not bode well for us. Or perhaps it does-given what a great “friend” Pakistan has been for us, perhaps it would be a good thing for us if Pakistan became China’s “friend.”
Hey!!! I was reading your blogs from last few months. I read your blog and a little bit hurt by your this particular blog. Why?
Because Pakistan is China’s best friend from decades. This friendship isnt domething new and US attack in Pakistan for OBL without the consent of the government and people wasnt a good idea and I believe the whole episode was a drama. About US funding, trust me to support US in there so called war against terrorism costs us more thn u think and more lives u have ever imagined. We are going through real War after 9/11 not US.
P.S: I have great respect for American people because I have studied in US for about a year. I see them as kind people but your particular blog is harsh and rude. I was expecting much responsible attitude from a writer like you.
Sundas from Pakistan
Well, I am a bit annoyed at the government of Pakistan. Of course, I know that while people of different nationalities can be friends, nations are never really friends.
I do agree that the war on terror is being waged almost entirely outside of America and killing a large number of people. However, Pakistani officials have fed the beast of terrorism themselves and the people are paying the price for that political maneuver.
Partially agree. The officials are corrupted but if you look at the appointments of top officials. You are going to realize that they all have US backing for instance Army chief who got extension .On the other hand yes Zardari isn’t doing anything except asking for money and he inst even spending that money on people.I would say dont give us fish , teach us how to fish.
But the good part is US is trying to make things better between people of both countries and they are running a very big student exchange program. I recently met US Deputy Sec. Secretary of States at some conference and he was very interested in knowing how we can make things better between the people of two countries.
