Holiday proof of my gaming nerd status. This is a copy of the Christmas “card” for my D&D group. Click on the images to see the full size versions, but be prepared for things that make no sense.
Ooooo, nice. Inside jokes I see. I did get a few of them from your previous posts. I remember a pack of wolves eating a character, getting sick, vomiting that character over a cliff and then tossing themselves over a cliff when they realized whom they had eaten.
Good, good memories like the classic-“I’m still alive!”
I never catched it before when I read it or I never put 2 and 2 together but I found out where the original “God Call” reference came from in fantasy. “Lord of Light”, 1967, by Roger Zelazny has a part where Sam asks the high Priest if he could use his phone to call God or at least use his direct line.
Living past level 4 was like ascending to a demi-god. Only, instead of fighting legendary creatures like hydras or cyclops, you could barely hold out against a few gnolls…And if you were a magic user, you could use a fireball to burn the bridge across which you’d escaped a band of lizard men. Then you just ran and ran…
Back in those days, a standard orc was worth 10 XP +1 per HP. These days, a 1st level warrior orc is worth 150 XP. So leveling up is much faster. Of course, you don’t get XP for gold or magic items anymore, but your typical orc wasn’t carrying around 136 gp.

That was Frank. It still hurts his soul to this day. 🙂
Yeah, and Rangers could speak with wolves…
They can now. 3.0 added Wild Empathy. See, I was ahead of the game…
My Ranger had Wild Empathy, even back then. Well, without the empathy part.

I killed you guys a lot back then, didn’t I?
Yup, that is the original God call. It’s good to have Him on speed dial.

I still wake up in cold sweats from all of the deaths. Women have asked me if I was in Nam’ ? I just turn and say “much worse…”.
Hey, you only died a few times. You only got eaten by a giant crocodile once. No big deal. Walk it off, paladin…walk it off.
