No.
Particle accelerators are, like test tubes, an important scientific tool. A new one is scheduled to go online soon, leading to fears that it will create a world destroying black hole.
While it might be possible for a particle accelerator to create a black hole, it seems rather unlikely. Further, even in the extremely unlikely event that a black hole was formed, it would hardly be a threat to the earth. Put somewhat crudely, there simply would not be enough energy available to create a hole large enough to do damage.
While the black hole threat seems hardly worth considering, it is hardly unreasonable to consider the possible dangers presented by such experiments. After all, large scale experiments involving fundamental particles might involve some danger. It would be irresponsible not to consider potential hazzards.
I’m not worried about the collider. Of course, I could be in for a shock when the world is destroyed by a black hole or some other spawn of the collider.
