At the challenge of my running buddy Sheryl, I have created a new religion-omnitheism. But, I need your support-for omnitheism to be taken seriously the wikipedia entry must be supported and added to. That is where you come in. Go forth and show your support at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnigod.
Here is the initial entry:
Omnigod is a fictional deity created as part of the fictional religion omnitheism. Both were created, with humorous intent, by Michael C. LaBossiere.
Omnitheism is the acceptance of all possible religions. The theological motivation for this view is twofold. First, by embracing all possible religions (including atheism), the probability of being correct about such matters increases dramatically. Second, by being an omnitheist one can claim all religious holidays. Given the abundance of religious holidays, this can result in not having to work. Ever.
Omnigod is a fictional combination of all possible deities. This is different from pantheism (see Spinoza) in that pantheism is the view that God is everything.
Sign me in for Omnitheism!!!
Sorry but Omnitheism already exists as a real religion to the people who believe themselvse to be Ommitheists. I have considered myself an Omnitheist since 1996.
Omnitheism is not yet an established religion persay, but attemps have been and are being made by omnitheists to formulate some form of comunity understanding of what Omnitheism is. There was a wikipedia page up, but it was removed because there were no sources cited, as there are no known publications regarding the phenomenon of Omnitheism. It seems to be a self realized religion, or as I see it more of a larger framework where all religions fit within, yet it is not a typicle religion, meaning you can be a Christian, and an Omnitheist, or an Omnitheist and a Christian, as Christianity is within Omnitheism. All reliions are within Omnitheism. All knowledge and all sciences are within Omnitheism, it will allways contain any new beliefs as the human mind grows, it is the ultimate belief and is focused on acceptance and forgiveness.
But keep your ideas intact as a fictional paralel, don’t change them but add to them or elaborate. and maybe we can all combine our efforts to make a wiki space for Omnitheism, fictional, as well as factual, respectively.
Cool ideas. <-this entire comment is copywrite to me
Hmm, I’ll have to publish some material on omnitheism. Wikipedia needs an entry for it-both the real version and the fictional version.
