Fascism is a system of government in which the state is regarded as:
1) Having a will and existence of its own.
2) Being the most important entity relative to individuals and lesser groups.
3) Being the entity that decides what liberty citizens will possess (and protecting them from unecessary and harmful ones).
Fascism is also a political ideology devoted to war and expansion.
Based on this account, America has been heading towards fascism for quite some time. People talk about “the Homeland” and in that I can her a faint echo of “the Fatherland.” We are always in some sort of war on something. Our liberties are being eroded. That all smacks of fascism.
It might be objected that America is not a fascist state-it is not like Nazi Germany or Fascist Italy.
This is true, but it must be kept in mind that fascism comes in degrees, just like other ideologies. The most extreme form was that put forth by the Nazis. A milder form is the one tainting America today.
This fascist taint is like a cancer. It is best to remove a cancer before it grows too big. That is why fascism must be opposed in America.
It has been claimed that to express dissent in a time of war is to dishonor America and her soldiers.
There is no dishonor in dissent. There is, however, great dishonor in unquestioning obedience.
